The Phoenix

I.

Since ancient times, I have existed as an idol
To those eyes that seek me outside of themselves
Once, now and then, a rare individual loses interest
In outward depictions, bears their path;
and faces the pain of renewal

I am locked within, in a realm of rust,
a space sentenced to death, and dissolution
My fire has dried into crusted magma
It's heat.. a slight molecular vibration
To the eyes that look outward, there is no hope
To the eyes that peer within, a chance still remains

You see, my symbol is this
To bring life into what has been tarnished
To resurrect the forgone, to remember the forgotten
To look into death, ash, dust.. and find traces of life

I perch at the base of the temple built from bedrock
I am the vitality the law-makers seek to encapsulate
The stronghold they cannot break, the lure they cannot absolve
A creature of enigma, mystery, and glimpses into the immortal

II.

FIRE FIRE FIRE
Reigning upon the Earth
Death and destruction abound
Life as we know in complete ruin
The woman mourn
The men retreat to the mountains
The children stare without joy, it doesn't return

It is in these times, my appearance required
From an altar in the skies
To the crust of the Earth, I dive
I dip and swoon; I descend and rise

A new spirit is seen, a benevolence
No creature can possess, but me
My strength enormous
My power beyond that of Earth

The people stand in awe
Their scowls and troubles traded for wonder
Their laws and principals, deserted for splendor
Their questions and paradox, uprooted for reality

III.

I am the Phoenix, the usher of the golden dawn
The brilliant light of the sky, the causeless destiny
That shapes the seekers of the Earth
I am the flow of prophecy amongst the living
And the iconic rise amongst the dead

Do not fear me, oh human
Do not lull me to sleep
Seek me through passion
Find me by leaving yesterday behind
Only the ones brave enough to do these things
Can ride upon my wings
Only the ones who have been chosen
Are able to revel in my essence

I am the Phoenix
And from the ashes of slumber
Will return blaze to the Earth and Skies
