My lonely self has been weeping,
Crying at the stump of a weathered tree
Unrelenting storms have passed; he feels forsaken
Yet his heart is the truest I have known
Fearless and not faltering, like brother Joseph
He has given birth to someone greater than himself
A majestic maple, with mammoth branches
Whose boughs bow to the happiness within
Like him,
We are all reborn through storms and struggle
We are all epics revised by trial and trouble
To these virtures I hold, both strong and stern
Like an ancient oak into the crust of Earth
Like dead space adherent to a living planet
All in hopes of tasting life's truths
And so,
I hold the hand of my lonesome child
Giving him the best I know
Seeing him along so we both may grow
strong and full
In the sun and shadows
Of everlasting love
